Our Top Picks for Dining Out This Week

With so many recent restaurant openings, Orlando is stepping up its game with everything from contemporary cuisines to new takes on old favorites. Don't miss these FOUR-approved restaurants when trying to decide where to go out to eat:

1. CANVAS

Located in Orlando's Lake Nona area, Canvas is the real deal.

These days Orlando is brimming with a mix of old and new restaurants, as in the booming Lake Nona district. There you’ll find a unique mix of new homes, stores, coffee shops and restaurants, including Canvas.

The space evokes the right blend of contemporary cool in a beautiful waterfront property.

I noticed two small plate dishes went by repeatedly: rather delicious looking chicken wings and yuca fries. The habanero wings — glazed with habanero, honey and lime zest — came piled high on the plate with garlic dipping sauce on the side. The yuca fries were larger than life and a meal all by themselves. If you like crab cakes, you must order them here also! 2. URBAIN 40

Located in Orlando's Dr. Philips' area, Urbain 40 is a classic.

We were fortunate enough to enjoy Urbain 40's new menu recently. Its located in the posh plaza called The Dellagio on Sand Lake's "Restaurant Row". We were pleasantly surprised by the variety of food and drinks, especially since this was our very first visit.

We were greeted by the Executive Chef Tim Keating, and was given the details on the new menu as well as the mission and plans for the future of Urbain 40. The freshness of ingredients used in the dishes and attention to detail were impressive to say the least.

Aside from the gorgeous ambiance and appetizer choices like mussels, they also have a variety of entrees and desserts. They even take it one step further and create little works of art with your dessert. Nice touch Urbain 40!

3. THE RUSTY SPOON

The Rusty Spoon is a lovely ode to locally sourced American food with European roots. Iowa native Kathleen Blake started cooking at an early age in her grandmother's kitchen where she helped prepare Sunday Suppers for her large extended family. We have to say, the influence of her childhood is seen throughout the delicious offerings of food here.

Where do we start? The deviled eggs are to die for. But then again, something magical happened when they brought out the onion rings too -- they were dusted with powdered sugar giving the resulting product a slightly sweet yet crispy, light, and irresistible flavor.

Next was the main course -- which for me had to be the famous "55 Hamburger" which came with a heaping mound of the best darn french fries I've ever had. They were delicately sliced and dusted with rosemary and parmesan cheese shavings alongside some homemade tomato-licious ketchup. Wow. RELATED STORIES
